This year’s summer vacation had me determined to find some not overly crowded outdoor places for Andrew and I to visit nearby. After scouring the map of Geoje and trying to see what I may have missed, I stumbled upon Suyabangdo. This is a small island off of Chilcheondo that is only open to foot traffic. The bridge to access the island was opened in 2017, which may have explained why it’s been off my radar. We set out in the morning not expecting a whole lot, but still excited to be checking out somewhere new. We were not disappointed!

As you’re approaching the footbridge from across the parking lot, you’ll be able to see both the gazebo perched on the peak, as well as the platform on the water, the two highlights of this small hike. We followed the trail, marked on the map below, leading straight to the peak, and then continuing on to the end of the island before looping back closer to the coastline on the left side.

One thing that I should mention right off the bat, is to bring tick spray! After crossing the bridge, the start of the trail will have you walking through tall grass that I’m sure must be a tick haven based on similar hikes I’ve done in the area.

After a minute or two walking through the grass, we turned right following the trail up the hill to the gazebo.

Turn right here.

Turn right here.

It was a short but steep climb up to the gazebo. I really loved the view from up here looking back.

We were lucky to have the place to ourselves!

From here, we continued on to the rear side of the island, which followed a lovely switchback trail down.

Before we knew it, we were at the platform over the water!

From here, we just continued on back to the bridge. Thanks for a great day, Andrew! Hikes are always that much better when we share them together. 💞
