Deokpo fire beacon 덕포 봉수대

📍trailhead

The Deokpo fire beacon is technically part of Gangmangsan. However, it easily stands alone as its own hike with some pretty nice views over the Deokpo area, so I think that it is deserving of its own post.

Start the hike by following the long set of metal steps and scaffolding headed up the mountain near the highway turnoff.

It’s only 0.7km of hiking to reach the fire beacon, but it’s a bit steep so take your time on the way up.

Once at the top, the area is wide open with the large fire beacon that you can climb up on and look out to sea.

In my opinion, the best part of this trail isn’t actually the fire beacon, it’s the view over Deokpo as shown in the cover photo. To find this spot, when approaching the fire beacon, turn left and follow the trail into the trees. Once you get to the crest of the hill (about 50 steps) you’ll notice some rocks to the left. The rocks with the open view are just below these rocks. After taking in the views you can return the way you came or continue on for a much longer hike over Gangmangsan.
